Kathy Beavers Photo
Background on Mrs. Beavers: I started my career teaching at Northside Middle School in Columbus where my roles included being a coach, 8th grade science and HA teacher, department chairman, and dean of students. During this time, I also traveled nationally as an educational reform presenter to help corporations align curriculum, create enriched lessons and assessments mapped to state and national standards. From there I went to Salem Middle to be the assistant principal until I realized I was missing my son grow up. So, 11 years ago, I came back to Seymour where I have been an 7th & 8th grade teacher, former Intrigue, Titan and Challenger teacher. Personal Information: I am a graduate of Seymour and Indiana University. My high school sweetheart is my husband and we have one fantastic son. My adopted son is a Pomeranian named Jethro. We are a Scout family who enjoy outdoor activities like camping, shooting, hiking, and such. My reputation: I know what it takes to be successful in a high school science course. Therefore, it is my job to prepare you for this. I take my job very seriously but want to enjoy the journey. So, you should expect to work and think in my class. My former students have said, 'just do it her way and you will be fine.' 'She has high expectations but is willing to work with you to get there.'

It has been wonderful to see how our staff have grown and met many challenges during the past 4 years of our 1:1 implementation. I love sharing the good things I see from our staff as well as the rich experiences from serving on the HECC board for 8 years, attending many conferences, and trainings. Working on creative solutions to problems brings me great joy. My passion is to help and encourage those around me. My faith and family are my source of strength.

I was born and raised in Salem, Indiana. After years of traveling the world I have returned to beautiful Southern Indiana once again. Recently, I purchased a home in Salem where I live with two cats and one large dogs. My mother was my Art Teacher in Middle School and she still resides in Salem. She has gotten much older so I do alot of the 'care giving' for my sister and me. I am a graduate of Indiana University 'John Herron' School of Art with a BAE. My graduate work has been completed through Indiana Wesleyn. I started teaching in Indianapolis Public Schools then transfered to the Seymour Community Schools. Art is my first passion, but I also love to travel the world. I have visited Poland, Jamaica, Mexico,Bahamas, Canada, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey and just last year China. My next stop is a toss up between Ireland or the Galapos Island. Aways willing to explore and see new things that gives me inspiration for my paintings. I paint and draw in my spare time and am an accomplished artist. You will find my work hanging in the Salem High School Library and many homes in the Southern Indiana area.
